What Size Bed Fits a Small Bedroom? UK Bed Size Guide

Everest Beds |

Getting the right bed size for a small bedroom is a balance between sleeping comfort and leaving enough floor space to move around. Here's a simple UK guide to help you choose.

UK bed sizes at a glance

  • Single (3ft): 90 x 190 cm — ideal for children's rooms and tight box rooms.
  • Small Double (4ft): 120 x 190 cm — a great compromise for single adults wanting more room.
  • Double (4ft6): 135 x 190 cm — the UK standard for couples.
  • King (5ft): 150 x 200 cm — needs a more generous room.

See our full bed size guide for exact dimensions.

How much space do you need around the bed?

Aim for at least 60–75 cm of walking space on at least one side of the bed. Measure your room and mark out the bed footprint with tape before you buy — it's the easiest way to picture the fit.

Maximise space with storage

In a small room, a bed that doubles as storage is invaluable. An ottoman bed uses the whole area under the mattress and needs no side clearance, while a divan bed with drawers keeps essentials close to hand. Both remove the need for a separate chest of drawers, freeing up floor space.

Our recommendation

For most small UK bedrooms, a small double or double ottoman strikes the best balance of comfort and storage. Browse all our beds — handmade to order with free UK delivery.
